Room 17C and Lobby
By Rosalyn Drexler
Directed by Alicia Hyland
Performances will take place at the Rose Art Museum.
Rosalyn Drexler’s "Room 17C" melds Kafka’s Metamorphosis with Arthur Miller’s "Death of a Salesman" by plonking Linda Loman, now a traveling salesman, in a squalid motel room with cockroach. Will Linda give in to the temptations of the road or be pulled back to her husband at home?
"Lobby", a tragicomedy that takes place in the lobby area of the Chelsea Hotel. Its lead characters, Oscar Wilde and Blanche DuBois, struggle alongside the junkies, derelicts and artists who then inhabited the famed establishment. While Oscar nobly suffers his fall from stardom, Blanche yearns for the sort of romance that can only exist outside of reality.

Rosalyn Drexler bio
Rosalyn Drexler was one of the early artists to mine American kitsch and pop culture for her practice. In the early 1960s, Drexler created paintings by collaging images from B-movies, tabloids, and pulp novels directly onto her canvases, before painting over them in a cool, flat style with acrylic paint. These works were exhibited alongside paintings by Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, and others in the “First International Girlie Exhibit”, an early exhibition of the Pop movement. Her life has been as multifaceted as her subject matter; Drexler was a professional wrestler, novelist and playwright, and has written, among other things, an adaptation of the screenplay Rocky.

Reading of "Luna Park" by Caridad Svich
Directed by Alicia Hyland
Merrick Theater, Spingold Theater Center
In the dog days of summer, seven twenty-somethings spend a semi-enchanted day in a grand park by the sea, where old music and new love collide. It is a perfect day until public tragedy affects them all. A comic drama about friendship, love, loss, and bombs.
On November 15th my new play "Never, Ever Empty the Bucket" will be presented as part of Climate Change Theater Action at Brandeis. More info below.
